I had been her mother, Mary’s, graduate school professor and have become a close family friend. I have been fortunate to follow Mullen’s development and progress over the years. When Mullen arrived in this country from Ghana, she came ready to embrace the new world around her. As her resume and school transcript reveal, she has done just this! Mullen has dedicated herself to her academics and to a host of activities that enhance her personal growth and contribute to her community. Mullen excelled in scholarly endeavors throughout her high school career and is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Ithaca College. She has a strong sense of responsibility and an ability to collaborate with others. She has taken on leadership roles in her school and community including as a Youth Leader in her church, and as a member of the planning committee for her county’s College Awareness Day. Mullen has also begun to invest in her future career in the health profession, serving as an officer in her chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), participating in a two-month program at Rutgers University, and shadowing an Athletic Trainer. Mullen has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing her skills and talents and to serving her community. She is a thoughtful and reflective young woman who understands the value of hard work and the complexities of culture. I am struck by her maturity and intelligence, her generous nature, and her ability to reach out in all directions to embrace new challenges!
